Strawberry Fields Forever

Happy 4th!!

On Sunday I climbed out of bed at 5:30 a.m. to do my long run of the week (11 miles). Oh, the things I’ll do to avoid running in the heat…

I ran the Mountains to the Sea trail from Hicks Canyon to the Walnut Trail. Normally I take Hicks Canyon to Peters Canyon to Back Bay but decided to switch it up and take try the Walnut Trail for the first time. If you’ve never run any of the Mountains to the Sea trails and you live in the OC, you need to do it ASAP. It isn’t the most scenic running spot in the OC but it’s fairly flat for the most part, safe, and really easy to follow. Oh, and there are some strawberry fields (ok, more like a strawberry patch).

For some reason I haven’t been taking any Shot Bloks or other fuel lately. I guess I just forgot about them, and my runs haven’t been very long so it was ok. Well, until Sunday it was ok. I started getting hungry around mile 9 and by mile 10.5 I was so nauseous that I was pretty sure I was going to throw up. Ok, stomach, I got the memo loud and clear – going to Sport Chalet tonight to stock up on Shot Bloks.

Yesterday I did a TM workout: 8 x 400′s (8:05 pace) with slow 400′s (10:00 pace) in between. Now I’m getting ready to do a slow 6 mile run and then go enjoy the holiday! On the agenda:
